Trango phase = cypher ceres II?

Seems like these are exactly the same biners but rebranded by either Cypher or Trango. |

Some of these companies share production facilities and designs |

I have always thought they were European but they have a Utah address. Are the biners Trango's or Cyphers designs? Or joint venture? trango.com/p-279-phase-stra… cypherclimbing.com/products…They are made by Trango Co Ltd, 587-11. Anaji-ro, Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, Korea. They´ll put any name you want on them. (Those particular karabiners are made in Taiwan). if you want to see who makes most of the generic stuff on the market you look at companies like Kouba, Trango (Korea), King Snaps, CIC,Hephaestus and so on. |

Who actually designed the carabiners then? Is it the outsourced firm (either Korean or Taiwanese) or do they just manufacture the biners but the design came from somewhere in the Western world? (Like Apple's designed in California, made in China thing.) Trango is Korean? Didn't know that. |

I know nothing of the corporate entaglement of Trango Co (Korea)and Greater Trango Holdings (USA). |

Many "manufacturers" do not make their own carabiners. For example, some of Petzl's carabiners are made by Rock Exoticia. Rock Exoticia actually makes carabiners for a number of other companies, and other companies make some of Rock Exoticas's products. The term "manufacturer" is used so loosely these days and virtually no manufacturer actually manufacturers their entire product line. Some companies dont even design some of their own gear, they just buy other designs and put their sticker on it such as the case with the carabiner in the OP's post. |

I was on a kick, (still am) to buy as much climbing gear made in USA., misty mountain, metulious, rock exotica, Omega Pacific etc... |

Trango Phase Quickdraw $14.95 |

dbrown wrote:Trango Phase Quickdraw $14.95 Cypher Ceres Quickdraw $10.95 Anyone know why the big price difference? Its possible that trango does their own in house testing and QC like metolius claims to do with their taiwan biners Other than that ... Marketing and the fact that folks will pay more for a "brand name" ;) |
