Lost: Entire lifelong collection of climbing gear en route from Laramie WY to Boulder CO on 287

My strap holding my box of climbing gear broke on me at some point between Laramie and Boulder today (19 Aug 14') Everything I have ever owned since high school was in that pastel green tupperwarelike box. I would give anything to get it back.
Contents included harnesses, mostly full rack, ropes, crampons, etc. I miss it dearly.

If you don't get it back, I could get you started back up with a harness and some biners and bootied cams.

Many years ago I drove my Isuzu Trooper to Mexico with caving buds in tow. It was my responsibility to lash a friend's pack to my roof rack and I did a substandard job. So the pack fell off along the foreign roads in the dark, never to be found. I purchased replacement gear for my friend, who oddly cursed me for doing so, and the only lament was the replacement rope was a weird off color from Putzl.

I think your situation of course is worlds worse, but still, I feel ye pains.

I lost some gear due to theft a few months back. Nothing too serious just a few biners, harness, tent, sleeping bag, and some shoes. Even though the gear was only worth a few hundred bucks at most used, it cost many times that to replace and took a long time.

On top of that I tend to get attached to the gear I used on my adventures so it was like a double whammy. I hope your gear makes its way back to you.

Did you check with Highway Patrol and county maintenance folks along the route?

It's still light outside. If I were you, I would be driving that exact route, very slowly, right now.

15 years ago my truck got smashed driving from Cheyenne to Laramie. A few days later after the snow melted, I went back to the crash site and retrieved some MSR cookwear, some bike tools, and a grigri that I still have.

I'm betting your gear is there now, go get it!!

I got a double rack+ of old wires and some hexs I'll donate, if you don't find your stuff.

Thank you for your concern. I drove up immediately after it happened back to Laramie and back ( 4 hrs ) and unfortunately found no trace of tote, gear, biners etc.

I appreciate your concern/offers. Hopefully I will be able to gather a harness/shoes/belay device, and bum the rest while climbing with friends.

sad to hear you didn't find your stuff man. I hope whoever got it has a great time with it and doesn't just trade it for meth or something. But yeah, if you want some wires and hexes I'm still trying to clean out some stuff I don't use.

Sending positive thoughts in hopes that your tried and true gear finds its way to you. In the meantime, I've alerted all my Colorado friends to be on the lookout for your Tupperware and it's contents. I have some extra gear that would enjoy a priority mail trip out West. May I suggest posting your shoe size, address, etc. so we can all throw the karma boomerang in your direction. ~William

I'd be willing to donate some gear as well - all in fairly new or unused condition.

Throw up an address and see what happens, or p.m. :)

The only condition is that you have to start a new thread with a trip report on said donated gear. Maybe even start a new traveling gear game with one of the pieces. Make it interesting!

At the least, you will have some gear to build new fond memories on.

Wow, you all are amazing! Plus the brotherhood of the traveling stopper is quite the mold for great stories!

If any were so inclined and ONLY if overloaded with unused gear, any size 10 shoe or medium harness would greatly speed up a broke grad students recovery back into climbing.
