What's up with this 4 C4? Play along the axels

I can't say for sure why they wouldn't put a spacer, but I can conjecture it is a weight and cost savings thing. Adding 10 grams is huge when you are trying to make the lightest cam, plus added cost, and they don't seem to have issues without having, so, "if it's not broke, why fix it?"

True, but C4s are far from the lightest cam, right? They're like buying Petzl Spirit quick draws. Super nice, far from the lightest. I could be wrong, though - especially if you look only at dual-axle cams.

Hey, I also know absolutely nothing about cam design, so there's that!

From BD FAQ

Q. The axles on my new C4 Camalot seem too long—what’s up?
A. On your new C4 Camalots it may appear that the cam axles are longer than you're used to seeing. This can be noticed by the amount of play, or the amount of side-to-side movement of the lobes on the axles. The play is there for a reason—to allow the lobes to move freely during use. This is intentional in the design and allows the cams to function properly in all conditions.
