Looking for a few seemingly "unobtanium" items in the US. Likely will have to source both from Europe. I know I'll eat some shipping costs but hoping to get info from anyone who's done it before as to what the least painful source is for such things.

specifically trying to find a WC Eclipse in MD and Edelrid Aramid 60cm and 120cm Slings (6mm cord) in case ones google foo is better than mine.

Thanks

woah, those slings look awesome. Can they be used for alpine draws?

Those slings do look interesting. If you order them perhaps a group buy would be economical, to cut down on the International shipping costs. I'd pick up a few for sure.

I'd be in for like 8 of the 60 cm ones and 2x120cm ones.

Interesting. I literally just pushed submit on an order from the EU for some dynafit bindings. Any idea if you are required to pay customs fees on such items?

They are awkwardly stiff so racking is going to be `interesting´.

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to locate a place that sold both pieces to avoid the already $$ Euro shipping. (It varies a lot too - some are crazy $$)

Ended up trying a different harness...

I'd be down for a group buy of the slings if others were interested. I only want to try a few as they certainly are a specialty piece but there are some Limestone threads down here as well as a few other ideas I have for them.

Group Buy?

If you can get enough interest for a group buy, I'd be in for two 60 cms and one 120 cm. We could all split shipping, then pay for you to ship them to us. Slings are very cheap to ship. If you don't want to take that on, I'd do it. 6-10 people would make the International shipping quite cheap.

ClimbingOn, what would you use these slings for? Supposedly they are not good for alpine draws.

I'm mostly just interested. I have no set uses in mind but it looks like they would be perfect for thread-throughs ice climbing.

Well here´s a few tips for you guys if you want to buy stuff from Europe.
Shipping from the UK is generally very expensive, (the charges vary throughout Europe). Germany is cheaper which is where I operate from and where I´d look first but naturally you a going to tend toward English languaage websites.
We have to generate a customs declaration which costs, nobody will be doing enough business here to automate it!
Prices vary through Europe because the countries have different sales tax but it´s around 20% for everywhere. You shouldn´t pay this but not everyone has a system in place to provide tax-free sales as it´s a load of paperwork for us. Look for a company that sells with the tax removed and uses a `reasonable´carrier.

If you bought for example a sling from Needlesports the 60cm sling is £9.99 + £30.00 carriage so £39.99 or $64,24.
Same sling from Bergzeit in Germany is €9.95 less tax = €8.32 + €19.95 carriage which totals €28.27 or $36.60.

I´d tell Scarpa N.A. you wanted to try them and see what they said first anyway, expect they´ve a few lying around somewhere!

I would try somebody in the US first. Most independent well-stocked climbing shops are very good at ordering something specific from their wholesale/dealer catalogs. Try Rock & Snow: rockandsnow.com/ They have been helpful to me in the past locating something that no other retailers carried.

Thanks Jim - Good Beta. email sent to Scarpa NA.

Glad to see many of the Euro companies starting to distribute their wares here but it's often tough to locate the more esoteric pieces.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
