Erika, I thought they portrayed it as if the woman had lead it before, but the guy was reluctantly leading it for the first time. Notice her encouraging, coaching nod as if to say "I've lead this, you can to".

nicelegs - I think those two are wrong ... I think they ARE fuckers who climb ... & so are these two shills for the energy industry ... but hey, as long as someone gets paid amirite ... ?

Ugh, thanks Tom. Definitely shouldn't have clicked on that thread this morning.

Craig,

If O+G companies are trying to adjust their reputation a real step in the right direction would be to change their practices and be honest about what they are doing. Not spends millions on misleading advertising. I have zero respect for anyone that supports the most destructive industry on the planet and thinks selling out is cool.

Evan,

In the name of oil and gas democratic governments have been overthrown and large scale violence towards the environment and people has been perpetrated. The real tradegy of the Nazi's was not that they killed millions of innocent people, but that average "good" people such as yourself allowed it to happen. All these things you think require oil to function actually don't. Life is not reliant on oil, we have been trapped in a system for profit. You have been well conditioned by society and your employers.

Right...Well anyway, it's clear you've got a solid understanding of history, the modern world, and your place in it. I can't compete with that level of logic, so you win, and we'll call this case closed. Let's get back to the real issues, like retro-bolting and bootied gear.

Great to see we were able to get to the Nazis in the first page of the thread. I was concerned that the obvious Nazi connection wouldn't come up until page 3.

America is without a doubt the most violent nation on the planet. The US DoD is the single largest consumer of oil in the world and the single biggest obstacle to world peace. The are well documented cases of foreign governments having been (and failed attempts) over-thrown for oil interests.

Our own government is largely controlled by big energy. I recall the not too distant past where we had a Texas oil man as president and Haliburton CEO as vice president. One would be extremely naive to think this is just coinsidence. These corporations are writing our laws for us. They are inhibiting our freedom and ability to self govern.

The real beneficiaries of cheap fuel are industries profiting from this bullshit consumer economy we have been convinced to participate in. Natural gas companies plan to export as much as %40 of US produced natural gas. I guess they were just kidding when they told us they were helping us develop our energy independance.

I'm willing to re-consider my understanding of reality if anyone has some information beyond I drive a car so I should be greatful that oil companies control the world and have made us their slaves.

Operation Ajax. 1953, Iran. CIA operative Kermit Roosevelt stages false flag operations to overthrow Mohammad Mosaddegh after he attempts to socialize Iranian Oil.

It started there, and progressively deteriorated. I'm as guilty as anyone..,

McPoopyPants. Do you drive an electric-only car? Or are you just being superior/hypocritical

Altered Ego · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Jul 2008 · Points: 0

I drive an electric toothbrush, son, no hypocrite here. I accept the practical reality of our lives that it is extremely difficult to break free from the fossil fuel/technology dependent mold that has been cast for us. We are all essentially stuck in this lifestyle for now so it’s not quite by choice that we live this way. On the other hand it’s obvious that the forces which guide us are evil and will eventually destroy us if these systems continue unchanged. This is reality not hypocrisy.

To me this isn’t much different than the KKK putting out a commercial with a couple of their members climbing the Naked Edge and everyone thinking it’s great and people being like “there’s nothing wrong with the KKK it’s full of people who like the outdoors, like me!”. It’s a bullshit commercial that’s designed to mislead feeble minded people and as always it worked.

The US makes up about %3 of the world's population and accounts for about %25 of consumed resources. That's insane and pathetic, like most of the discussions on this site. There is plenty each of us can do in our own lives to change things but that's the hardest place to start, changing the self.

Contrary to what you believe, these companies are filled with people who enjoy the outdoors, treasure the environment, and have a realistic appreciation of how the world works. I am one of those people. So next time you pump gas to head to the crag, uncoil your rope, flip on your light switches, or even ride your bike, think twice about your opinions of companies that provide the service you require.

+1 for what? Are you guys ignorant or just don't give fuck? Noble Energy is here in CO. to make private earnings from our shared natural resources. Literally fighting communities rights, your rights, to control the areas where we live. Changing laws and taking municipalities to court and misinforming the public with bullshit advertising. They don't want anyone to have a choice if they decide to put a well in your backyard or your next to your kid's school. They are not here to climb, they are here to make money at our expense. You really think energy companies should have more rights to the land than you?

I personally hated the part where he is belaying her on basically flat ground, with no anchor of any sort, in some bullshit "you can do it way".

@Mc P: If you really hate what is going on so much, you can always move elsewhere.

Ellanor Augusto,

Really dude that's all you got? If I don't like something I should move? If there is severe corruption in my government I should move? If I don't like a private company coming into my area and stealing resources while destroying the environment I should move? If my rights are being subverted for the 0.1%ers profits I should move?

C'mon son, is that how you handle things in life? You run away from things you disagree with? You write some dumb shit, kid.

It's always nice to see a good political debate about a climbing commercial. Have fun banging your heads against a brick wall while not changing people's mind.

Not at all. But all I ever see you write are complaints and insults. And if the community around you is pissing you off that much, then maybe its time for a change? What else can be done that doesn't involve criminal activity since Hickenlooper took the issue of the ballot nullifying the second wave of Fracking petitions? I can not vote for him in the upcoming election, wait for the next petition and volunteer again as a circulator, send another letter to the CO members of congress, or do nothing and hope Hickenlooper doesn't get reelected.

I'll be sure to include my entire life philosophy next time so you don't misunderstand that what I suggest you should do, isn't something that I would.

MC- You have a point but the Holocaust? Really? If I were Jewish I would think you owe me an apology. I can't help but think that you're either ill-informed or trolling.

Why is it that people are stoked to see the Bastille in a commercial but the second that Honnold capitalizes on his success and talent everyone's up in arms? Wasn't that Ancient Art he was climbing? I'm almost confident no one was stoked on that ad.
