Outdoor Research Vert gloves new vs. old version
|
I have been very happy with the old version of the Outdoor Research Vert gloves but they have sadly worn out (I stupidly neglected to swap them before abseiling off). I now note on the OR website that they have made some reinforcements on the thumb and index that to me look like they reduce the dexterity of the gloves. Does anyone have experience with the differences in the old plain, no fuss version versus the new(ish, most recent) reinforced version? Is the new version as dexterous? Unfortunately I dont live near a shop that stocks them so cant go and have a play. If the reinforcements are as I suspect, then what similar gloves should I be considering as a replacement? |

The new version of the OR Vert is no where near as good as the old version. They are only slightly less dextrous, but do not fit as well or feel as comfortable. They are thicker and stiffer and don't breath or dry out as fast. My biggest problem with them is the liners aren't sewn in very well so when you pull the glove off, the liner can partially invert and so is hard to get off, and even harder to get back on. |

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. Over at ukclimbing.com someone suggested that the Mountain Equipment (UK) Super Alpine is supposed to be very similar to the old version of the Verts. I think I will give them a go. |

You guys are spot on about messing with a good thing...and I got wind of the changes, thus stocked up on the older model....I have extra if anyone wants to buy one at whatever retail is for the current ones.... |

Thanks for the offer, Dow but I will have to pass. Unfortunately I am not in the US so postage would be hairy. I think I will give the Mountain Equipment Super Alpines a go. If they are not as expected I may come back to you. |
