So you're saying waterworks was "your" spot and you're grumpy and got a bone to pick and think someone should go back there with a loaded gun and shoot people?

I don't have any clue what this rambling post means. Everyone knows the zone had been climbed at since the 70s ... Mike I know you weren't the first either. What's the point? Nobody got if closed, it was never open in the first place. As for bass, those guys tried drumming up support to have the area legal. In this case they succeeded as the Mohonk preserve purchased several of the parcels for climbing.

How's about leaving the gun and ammo home, and contacting the access fund instead? They kinda specialize in these things... (?)

Might want to try a more diplomatic tone (or one with even 1% of diplomacy). This comes off as a drunken rant.

My chalk marks were mostly on the sub 5.13 problems. The other chalk marks at the time were most likely "Bwana's" another climber who's home was close to the area. Some one, seeing my chalk, Bashed off the opening holds of climbs in the 1st chasm. That event and the land ownership issues that clearly still exist in frozendale, kept me from saying any thing about the best place on earth; free standing islands of quartzite, shady chasms, perfect landings, climbs of all types and grades even some cracks, (some 80ft lead able walls if you go far enough) It was paradise in all seasons, and it extends for 3 miles. When the truth about the slime that runs the town and county became undeniable, we sold the property, at a loss, squatters and all, and disappeared. I have waited for years to say anything for many reasons. As the next wave of climbers came along, acted like they were the first to find/climb this rock, (absolutely not ! thats the facts) tried to open it to public access, and as is telling from it’s current unmentionable status, got it closed, I remained silent. Base /face this is on you gays What the phuk! the area is now what? ? (I will not call it what the most recent crew named it) … but is it open to climbing ? Will I get arrested, beaten, shot at, or shot if I stroll in the woods with a chalk bag ? (I AM aware that these are real risks here in Penciltucky). The miles of rock that I’m talking about is easy to find, been heralded as a world class bouldering area and if you know where to look can be seen on the web. Any bigger than me out there with a like mind might want to (open carry, fully loaded) take back Schneiders Rift.
Right on?

I remember reading about the purchase and eventual opening of a "world class bouldering area" in the gunks 5 full years ago now. I followed up on it over the following year or two and never found anything, and then totally forgot.

Remembering all this, I started researching and I was surprised to find that not a single new piece of info has been released in that time. I'm clearly not a local and not overly familiar with anything but the "main" gunks areas, but i cant help but be curious. Anyone care to tell a story? Or is this one of those things we don't talk about in public?

Looks like I'll file it into the growing 'don't talk about it' folder.

Sean,
Five years ago the mohonk preserve purchased the area. How it came labeled as world class is beyond me. Because of the sensitive nature of parking and neighboring land owners, local climbers agreed to run volunteer tours. These were advertised online by multiple sources. Anyway interest in the tours waned substantially so they ceased. At this point the Preserve had found a viable parking option and had plans to open this area plus more. That was a year or two ago, and no one seems to know what the holdup is. That being said, they have now said fall for an opening date
