Hey guys and gals, I was a bit of an indoor climber in my younger years 18-22ish got outa of it and now 10 years later im way back into it! My friend and I live in the phoenix/peoria area and are planing a trip to Joshua tree to do some bloldering. My question is, are there any must do's in Jtree? I dont really care about the grade. I mean im not going to be doing a V9 or anything like that at this point, but I would love to try all sorts of climbs and grades. If we cant do it then we cant do it!

Ok new friends, thanks for any info!

The guidebooks have a star system for quality of routes. That's a good place to start.

Edit: The climbing store in the town of Joshua Tree, Nomad Ventures, has several guidebooks available.

gunsmoke is awesome, more of a 5.10+ route. get there early, brush before/after you're on it! Chube V2 right by it is alright too. Might as well jump on street car V6 on your way in/out of the gunsmoke area, sweet stemming. I thought the LHMFP V4 is really sweet too, pretty delicate highball. Right across the street from Lynn Hill is the meadows boulder, with a cool V4 and V5. Fry problem V2 is just up the road and is cool too! Fun beta and not too easy (at least for me). Kirkatron V5 traverse is hard/awesome. And, if you're feeling really tough make sure to hike up to the underground, a super cool spot with hard problems and an amazing view.

that being said, if you're going on a trip for bouldering...go to bishop. it's the mecca, 2 different areas (happys/sads and the milks) and owen's river gorge (sport) to build your endurance.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Bouldering
