Climbing in Patagonia January -- February '15

All, |

Awesome! I'm glad I have had so much response! Ha. C'mon. Nobody is going to be in Patagonia? |
I'll be in El Chalten for all of January, February, and maybe some of March. I more or less have partners lined up for a good bit of that time, but nothing is 100% (other than knowing I'll be there). I'm always down for swapping info and having another person around to climb with or just swap beta. I was there briefly a couple years ago and have a decent feel for the place. Also speak pretty good spanish. I've never been to Cochamo (have been to El Frey). My guess is that you will want to max out your time in El Chalten if you can. The town, the climbing, the scenery... hard to beat. |

White Lightning wrote:Greg, The close-quarters community in Cochamo is super conducive to finding random partners. Chances are, several parties will be new-routing and looking for help, and many more will be climbing the classics with room in their group. If you hang out in La Junta for a day or two, you are bound to find other climbers with similar ability and high levels of stoke. Either way, enjoy! Thanks! I was hoping Cochamo is a tight-knit as it seems. Do you know if El Frey is the same way? I'm guessing Chalten isn't, as the routes are much more committing. |

El frey has a refugio/cabin in the cirque that serves as a gathering place for all the climbers. I think it would be easy enough to find a partner there. Speaking spanish would be very helpful as it was pretty much all spanish speakers the one week i was there (no idea if that is typical). It would be a little trickier in el chalten but still possible. Town is small, but it is disjointed enough that you may spend several days or more trying to find the right person. The climbers stand out to some extent but there are plenty of gore texed out "backpackers" that look the part from a distance. |

Hey Greg! |
I will be down from mid Jan to March and looking for partners at both Chalten and Cochamo. |
Kirk and Thomas. I hope you received the emails I just sent you. Chuck, I will definitely still be heading to Frey and probably Cochamo. What about you? |
Hey Grego! I'm planning to be in Cochamo from Jan 20 to Feb 11ish and then head down to Chalten until mid March. That's a pretty loose plan I super flexible with locations and dates. |
Bump! |
Change of plans for me. I am going to head to El Chalten first getting there on January 22 until February 21st then on to Cochamo until mid March. I've talked to a handful of people and it seems that most of them are going to be in El Chalten for January/Feb and Frey/Cochamo for March. |

Hey guys |

Hi Everyone. |
Hey Alex |

All, bring american dollars. The exchange rate is great on the streets and poor at the bank. So if you need to withdraw cash from an ATM, you get a crappy rate. Also, if anybody is still heading this way, bring some extra dollars for me and I'll PayPal you money. I'm the idiot who didn't know you can't get dollars in Argentina! |
