Is there any climbing near Ithaca
|
I have to go to Ithaca for a few days. I was wondering if there is any climbing nearby. I mean nearby not the Gunks or the Daks! |

Blue Run offers 30 or so short sport routes, a handful of trad routes and a few boulder problems.2 hours is definitely closer than the ADKs or Gunks: goo.gl/maps/ZQKtF Now that we're at 2 hours, why not add another 15-30 minutes for Little Falls? :-D goo.gl/maps/0CJSD thomannengineering.com/soft… I don't know the quantity or quality of the PA climbing area mentioned, but Little Falls will definitely fill up a few days. There's a few trad routes, but it's mostly a TR area. Some bolted anchors, but expect to be building gear anchors. Having some static line and/or long runners is sometimes helpful. Been a few years now since I've been there... If looking for quality, Lost T and the areas near Good Luck Cliffs is probably the closest in that direction (ADKs). Old Forge has some climbing nearby as well. Now you're approaching Gunks travel times, in which case - Gunks. I used to climb with some folks from your area, and they frequently went to Little Falls. They only occasionally went to PA. Not sure if that says anything about the PA options. |

No. All of the local rock is shale and very unstable. |

1 year later, talks of a climbing gym in Syracuse have revived, hoping they get that figured out so I can hit it up when I visit my bro. |
