Yesterday a huge film crew seized the parking lot, the Bastille , and flew a drone around the canyon filming . It sounded like a small helicopter, and was disturbing perhaps dangerous for some ,
Can we ban this ?

Send a complaint to the park HQ and ask for a moratorium with some rule making on the issue.

BTW a well aimed old sling with a biner on it is good way to ground a drone.

I'm kind of ambivalent about this, as the footage from these drones is pretty amazing. Did you see the fireworks one? People scrambled to have that outlawed as well. Meh. Not sure I want it outlawed, but yeah, don't hog the whole parking lot.

It was a commercial shoot for an oil company. They had permits through the park

While you're at it, please ban all GoPros, or is that Good Pros?

yeah, the last few years seems like everybody is a filmmaker of all action sports with their GoPro vids posted everywhere. Problem is nobody seems to be able to EDIT and create a nice piece of film. Lotta self important sports people out there with the Go Pro on the loose....alas, the age of digital instant self gratification is a plague upon us.

One buzzed me this spring on Outer Space. Just hovering around /following me. Kinda of a pain in the ass and really killed the vibe of an otherwise beautiful climb.

I do enjoy some of the footage. Will they become a double standard. We like the new footage online but hate when they are around us?

Interesting questions to answer.

I'm with yah Stich. Harmless until they are not

Deer Trail, CO (aka Kansas west) floated around the idea of issuing drone hunting permits.

Can this footage from eldo be found online somewhere?

Seconded.

I had some stranger buzz me with a GoPro-clad quad-copter in Red Rocks Canyon here in CO Springs this season. It's a little offputing, and it wigged me out just having this thing hover behind me filming my climb.

Good thing it wasn't one of these drones...

Also, how great would it be to use drones for search and rescue??

Ya no one really cares! Unless the said drone had a barking dog attached to it , or it was booty-ing yer gear as you climbed... :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
