Belaying my partner on the 1st pitch of short job this past weekend. Its one of the first short easy climbs in the trapps. Anyway, was minding my business belaying and a turkey vulture flew down to my left and seemed to be curious about something back in the deep cracks/caves of the jumbled blocks to the left of short job. Well it flew away a few min later but all the sudden there was a loud "hissing" coming from inside the cracks. Repeatedly kept doing it so i backed away while keeping my partner safe and got a glimpse of a white and black (Or brown) massive bird in there. Thought it was a little late for a falcon to be nesting but who knows
So just an FYI - I believe there to be a peregrine nesting just to the left of Short job. Try and give it some distance and peace. I stayed as far away as I could while cleaning the route.
Your right...I googled "young turkey vulture" and notice that when young their bellies and necks are mostly white. Which explains why I saw a white/brown bird. lol. Im used to seeing them as ugly adults.
Man that thing hissed from its lungs....sounded like something out of a horror movie! lol
