Summer climbing near Los Angeles

Hey everyone!

So I am heading to Los Angeles soon and am searching around for a good place to do a little climbing. I considered Joshua Tree. However after checking the average temps i voted no.

Would anyone be able to recommend a good area within 2 hours of Los Angeles I may have overlooked? Anything from bouldering on the beach to long gear lines :)

Thank you!

Riverside quarry is as far from outdoor climbing as you can get, while outdoor climbing, but its got some gems! There are some spots up on Mt. Baldy, higher elevation, cooler temps usually. Not a big fan but Malibu Creek is a good option.

Holcomb is currently not as hot as JTree:

The temps in Tahquitz, in the morning, look pleasant. Especially on the shaded north side. Tahquitz is a place you shouldn't miss.

If you go to Riverside Quarry, go early AM and it'll be in the shade.

Another place no one mentioned would be frustration creek, it is small but easy to get to and is in the shade in the afternoon.

shaded most of the day. I highly recommend Whodunit, The Consolation or Long Wong climb for good gear routes.

Or you can park at the same area and do a lot shorter approach

Recommend flower of high rank and Johnny Quest

+1 for Riverside quarry. It's my backyard place to go for sport climbing. But get there early and leave by 12ish or you will cook in the sun. Wall is completely west facing

Altitude is key.....or the ocean.

Horse flats, Malibu Creek, Echo Cliffs, Pine Mt, Santa Barbara, the list goes on and on... esp if your more willing to drive about 3.5 hrs, then the So. Sierra comes into play.

We all drive

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
