sqwirll wrote: It's the crack left of the trees.The lower part is certainly 5th class - that bulge between the two major horizontals looks trivial but it's not, so I put a piece in there, then a high piece that I can reach from the stance before starting the crack proper, then one before pulling the main bulge. I'm guessing the OP fell at the vertex of the main crack curve, as after that it's fairly straightforward. |

Certainly doesn't look like fun, but better than your only piece blowing out!the piece is only one of the many things i would worry about getting blown out in this situation. ouch! one of my partners was leading sort of a leaning/stemming pitch, and i knew if she came off it could be trouble. the way she was stemming i could tell that if her foot slipped it would 'push' her foot right over the top of the rope. sure enough, foot pops, over the rope, slightly flipped, and one hell of a rope burn on her achilles. i have definitely been in situations where i realized this could be a problem, and i had to do things differently (ie more difficultly) to ensure it wouldn't happen. kind of a pain, but that's how it goes. |

It is amazing how easily your skin rope burns. A friend of mine has a scar on their arm where there partner fell past then after falling above their first piece. It sounds like everything worked the way it should have. |

There are certainly plenty of lessons to learn here, but it looks to me like you are trying to learn them which is a lot better than many people. Every commenter here has done some dumb things on the path to experience. Keep analyzing your successes and failures (even when they don't bite you), and as other have mentioned, do some more mock leading. Most of all though, keep climbing. |
