Camping in Tuolumne

Does anyone have advice on getting a campsite in Tuolumne in late July? I've never been, but finally making the pilgrimage. What's the scene like? Is it easy to get a campsite in Tuolumne? Are there good alternative (and maybe cheaper) campsites nearby? Does anyone want to share a campsite with a pair of climbers for a week?
