I'll be in Vegas for work this week, can I get any volunteer to take me out to Mt. Charleston for a couple days? I know it's gonna be hot in August, but would hate to miss out on the chance to get in some Vegas climbing while I'm there.

Kim,

Find your way to the Hood or Robbers Roost with a 70m rope and some draws. Good chance you will find someone to belay you; especially on a weekend. The Hood and Robbers Roost beta may be found here:

mountainproject.com/v/the-h…

and in "Isles in the Sky" guidebook.

The Hood east face shades up in the afternoon around 2PM. Parking for the Hood is in Trail Canyon trailhead on Echo Road. Cause the trail faces south climbers hike up early and stay over right on the Hood saving the east face till the afternoon

The Roost is one of the coolest places in summer. Park there in a pullout on Deer Springs Cut Off and a short hike up through the forest.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
