I sustained a terribly painful injury last weekend doing a Rt handed gaston, Lt foot high step move. I felt and heard some popping followed by severe pain and difficulty breathing. Ive had an x ray and there are no fractures or lung involvement. I know that I need to rest a while. However, has anyone else had this kind of injury? Super bummed.

I have had costochondritus for years from an old skiing injury to the ribs. Twisting/torquing actions (or really wide reaches) are the problem when it flares up. But complete inactivity makes it worse, not better. Mine is currently flared up because I fell on a playground jungle gym trying to emulate a 9 year old child last week...
Yours is probably similar, but much worse if you tore something. Have you seen a doc?
I dislocated my left 5th rib from the costal cartilage doing something similar. I pinched a block with the left hand at shoulder height and dyno'ed with the right for a jug. At the end of the move my left hand was at my hip pulling in hard. Something popped and it hurt to breathe shortly thereafter. Xrays were inconclusive, but there was a visible bump at the joint that would click in and out with a deep breath. The rib also rotated slightly so that it put pressure on the articular facet at my spine. It felt like someone was pressing a thumb into my back for a while. You have 6 weeks of doing nothing to look forward to. It'll heal.
Yes. Similar to the others. Big, dynamic move at full extension while having to keep core tension. Only took a few days to heal though. And I think it was a reaggravation of a previous rugby injury from a direct hit to the ribs which took six months to heal but I could still climb - just had pain.
