Unfrequently climbed or unclimbed rocks in central Nevada
|
I've recently moved to Austin, Nevada for a USFS job for the summer, and I've been itching to get back on rocks (big ones are hard to come by out here it seems). I have been doing a little research with the district geologist and found there to be some fairly large granite domes in the central Toiyabe range. I have read about the "Wild Granites" area, but all directions seem to point me at other places from the area that I have been looking at... |

Any place that has an access road named Indian Burial Ground Road has got to be pretty cool!!! |

Do some searching and you'll find info. Long approaches, big runouts, big snakes, etc are mostly what you'll hear about. The rock is supposedly solid, and its a beautiful setting. Google is your friend but a lot of guys developing the place are keeping it pretty quiet. It really is out there. |

Been there. Like he said, it is pretty quiet out there, and will probably stay that way. |

As a lover of lesser known ranges, your question got me searching. |

I'm working nearby this summer, in the Toquimas. Let me know if you want to explore. |

I'm heading there this weekend if anyone is down let me know!! |

Which days? I might be able to get some work out of the way and meet you there. |
