If anyone has any information about the scattered bolted routes around the Garner Valley area, could you post an approximate age for the gear that is installed if you have knowledge of it? I've been climbing in that area for 3 years now and have found what looks to be "project" and unfinished routes, and want to know when they were initially worked. Thanks.

A guy named Robin used to live out at Pathfinder. He put up some of the routes out there. I think many of the sport routes are his, but I could be wrong. He moved away about 2 years ago. He used to be active on this forum as "Robin like the bird", or something like that.

Are you living out in Garner Valley?

Ryan, yes Robin did a bit of work out here but I lost contact with him when he moved. And yes, I live in the Garner Valley area.

Scott & Robin Erler as well as Matt Beebe and others bolted routes in Garner Valley starting in the late 1980's.

I started exploring here in 1997 when I took my class to Pathfinder for a week and I met the climbing instructors there who showed me the sweet boulders. Most of the routes were already established by then.

For the original routes, C Miller is correct of course, he seems to know everything so cal. Not sure Robin the Bird did much, it didn't seem like it the few times I talked to him. He seemed just as happy as I was with the upgrading of some of the hardware, as well as wondering about newer routes. I could be wrong...

The Troll (Kelly), Kendall and Frank are also responsible for some recent route activity. I still believe they still are working the area... maybe...

Some of my top ropes now sport bolts, but oh well, thats what i get for keeping secrets...

It must have been so cool to drive all the way back there... super coooooool...

But what do i know...
