How has the legalization of marijuana affected climbing in CO, if at all?

This is ridiculous how can everyone be oblivious to the current rash of pot smoking that has taken over Colorado. The escalating use of marijuana should not be taken lightly, it is a gateway drug

I haven't seen anyone at the crags since the legislation passed, which is, ironically, a turn for the worse. Trails are overgrown, spiderwebs cover all the climbs, and hardware is literally falling off the wall from neglect. Best not to climb in Colorado anymore....

I'm thinking Colorado should invade and annex the Moab area. I'd say that represents 90%+ of my out-of-state driving each year. I'm sure we must have some historic claims to the region. I've been binge-watching The Borgias though on Netflix and it might be affecting my thought patterns.

The definition of Catch 22. Legal= extra enforcement!

hmmmm.... not totally sure how much more "profiling" is going on in regards to Utah cops discriminating against CO tags more than they have in the past-- they have been doing it for years. I live in carbondale and spend a lot of time in Utah - mostly baked - never been hassled; or maybe i just don't remember. Not saying it doesn't happen, just that its not any different than before. (always avoid NV cops)

Unfortunately thats the next logical step since most pot takers are bound to eventually end up with meth addictions (just part of the pot taking process)

Spencer, lot of smart ass answers here. Honestly, nothing has changed. I have never been able to relate to pot-heads and find them somewhat obnoxious but basically harmless. They still are.

I voted for legalization in Denver, I voted for it when it came up in Colorado. I would be nervous about having a weed establishment near my house however, due to banking laws they are all cash and it is only a matter of time before they start being taken down regulary in armed robberies. Someone needs to fix that.

But if you visited Colorado 2 years ago and then today, you wouldn't notice much changed. Population growth is our biggest adjustment.

How about you STFU good pro. If you don't like pot, don't smoke it!
Quit trying to lecture us. We are all adults here. And we like the feeling of having personal freedoms.

Zealots don't want to change your mind. They only want to scream their opinion.

The meth at crags thing is funny to me for 2 reasons. One, it sounds outlandish and crazy and two, I personally know more people than I can on one hand who have used meth while climbing. It was more in fashion in the late 80's and early 90's. It probably doesn't happen anymore with prescription amphetamines being fairly easy to come by.

The only thing I've noticed is a proliferation of slow assed drivers , I really don't give two shits who smokes, shoots or snorts whatever , that is until I'm driving behind some stoned idiot . Nothing pisses me off more then finally getting around some slow assed driver only to discover it's not a 85 year old man or woman who can hardly see over the dash or even an ancient oriental person , just some twenty- thirty something dipshit stoner !

Other then that blaze away I say !

Oh btw I grew up in Humbolt county so go fuck yourself if you think I'm prejudiced towards weed .

Strong words from not so strong a man
Anyway he has a semi valid point
He fails to recognize that the stoners in colorado can barely move much less drive a vehicle,
Not to mention their addiction to weed de..bilitates there ability to have a job
Where would they be driving to ...
Now that s a question worth

Nothing like disproving your own point...

And no, OP, nothing has really changed. Adding laws doesn't change human behavior, nor does eliminating them make anyone more righteous.

We've got the same thing we always have had- but less of a stoner lotto, now that it's less of an issue legally. Though public consumption is not legal, most LEO's got the memo - leave them alone.

At some point there will be civil suits, of course, as liability in CO is prima-facia.
I got dropped once in my climbing career. It was by a stoner. I don't give crap if someone smokes, but I won't rope up with someone who has a pipe packed or plans to before the day is done.

The more things change the more they stay the same....Utah has always targeted greenies. Long before pot was legalized, utards have been cracking down.ripping long haired climbers from their cars. i think good pros' comment is biased and speculation (what is with all the man hate?).Did you hang out in boulder to come to your findings? You should go hang out in Pennsylvania and further your research.Have you ever been to Philly? Would you rather have your children smoking pot purchased from a legitimate shop or from a heroin dealer in new jersey? ALL IS THE SAME IF YOU ASK ME.I have seen more lazy, unmotivated climbers this year but i speculate it is all the new gyms. When these gym bred climbers get to the real cliff and ropes aren't set up and bolts aren't laid out every 3 feet, its epic. Maybe they'll go back to the controlled environment where all is safe and cusioned from real life.(for a small fee) Gym climbing is a gateway for complacency, laziness and being soft mentally! Any of those annoyed with colorado law you should check out somewhere up beat, with super outdated laws, that republicans invented to keep social control. i love Colorado! These threads are great. We can focus on the problems or the solutions. Whats the problem?

"All pot smokers are unmotivated" is a farce. Some of the most motivated people I know smoke pot.
Unfortunately, stereotypes still persist. Todays pot is so strong, some of the sativas are more like caffeine!
Back in the 70's, when all they had was essentially ditch weed... Sure, that stuff will bring you down.
What about booze drinking belayers? Now THAT is scary!

Not so sure about that. That's how I learned to climb. Drunk. Didn't everybody?

That's true - but it's the 90% that are unmotivated making the 10% that are look bad...\\

Or pretty much the same - someone whose mind is not primarily on safety.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
