No more Patagonia Northwall jackets for sale??

Last winter I bought a pair of XL Northwall softshell pants. They looked perfect for the crazy cold winter we had in the Northeast. When they arrived I noticed the words "slim fit" on the tag. If you don't already know I'm not slim. The pants fit great though and were the best pants i ever wore for a day of climbing.

The Northwall pants were so comfortable I wanted to buy the jacket for next season. I looked the jacket up on Patagonia's site and noticed the fit was slim like the pants. I figured I would give it try anyway. Maybe the jacket will fit even though the chart says 47 inch chest and mine's a 56. What the heck.. wait.. discontinued!! Boo!

What's up that?? Anybody know what's going to replace the Northwall. Any chance of XXL? I tried on a DAS once. Anybody seen Tommy Boy?

According to my discussions with Patagonia folks at the Winter OR show, they are discontinuing the Northwall and the Knifeblade line.

Apparently, the fabric (Polartec Powershield Pro) is too expensive, and they are not going forward with any clothing made from this fabric.

Too bad, as the Northwall pants and Knifeblade Pullover are by far my all time favorite winter shells.

I actually bought an extra pair of Northwall pants and an extra Knifeblade pullover so I've got spares if I ever wear out my current set.

Some of Patgonia's sizing is not for us normal people! I love my Knifeblade pullover in M - got a great deal in a Knifeblade jacket in the same size and couldn't even get it zipped up! Couldn't get Northwall pants that fit well either so I wear my Knifeblade with Alpine Guide soft shell pants.

Damn this fabric must be expensive if Patagonia is giving up on it. Its great stuff though!

Check out the outdoor research lodestar jacket. It's a pretty similar jacket although it only has power shield pro in certain areas and power shield high loft in the others. It's a "slim" cut too though.

Or perhaps it has a high failure rate. There are tons of complaints about Knifeblade jackets delaminating.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that OR jacket. Last season I just layered up. If it was 25 out I would wear a Marmot ROM. if it was 10 out i would still wear the Rom but i would wear a pullover underneath. I did the same thing with pants. When I wore the Northwall pants it didn't matter whether it was 30 or 5 outside. I was always comfortable in those Patagonia softshell pants.

I hope Patagonia brings out something as sweet to replace the Northwall line!

Call the Dillon, Montana Patagonia store. When I was there earlier this spring they had lots of Northwall pants and some jackets for crazy cheap. Like less than 1/3 retail.

The new Patagonia KnifeRidge pants and jacket now come with Power Shield Pro. No new insulated version like the Northwall.

I am fortunate enough to own Knifeblade and Northwall kit(yay clearance deals from years past). I find the Northwall jacket is too warm in conditions I actually want to ice climb in regularly, -17C or warmer. The pants are great, but too baggy!

No issues with the material delaminating. The Knifeblade is by far my most used and seriously abused jacket. I ski tour in it, and mixed climb in it. I want to hoard this stuff it's so good!
