Some great climbing up around Asheville, unfortunately for you however not much in the way of sport. Looking Glass, Cashiers Valley crags, Rumbling Bald (out of season) are all up that way, but all pretty much trad. A couple of "sporty" routes maybe, but nothing really true sport. Welcome of NC. Hope you have a rack. Crowders less than 2 hrs from Asheville with some sport routes, but not worth the drive and too hot this time of year anyway. Rocky Face would be about the same distance. An old quarry now a county park with a couple dozen sport routes. Went there once, okay, prob not going back. A number of mixed areas with a few bolts, but some gear needed on most everything else. Better to find a local than you can get out with.
If your willing to drive up towards Boone there is a small roadside crag called The Dump that has some good sport routes, also just down the road from The Dump is Little Wilson. Little Wilson is a little difficult to find if you dont know where it is at and about a 20-30min walk in. It is right by a river so it may be a slightly cooler option in the summer. Cathys Creek is another option, its mostly trad with a few sport lines in the higher (high for me anyway) grades. The Dump and Little Wilson are not bad though if your willing to drive for it. Also within a few hrs is Obed outside Knoxville TN. Great sport there but again, its 2.5-3 hrs. Hope this helps.
Check out Stone Depot. It is close to Brevard and has a good mix of trad and sport multi pitch routes. There are some pretty good moderate to easy sport routes. They even have a 5 pitch sport route. Nice bolted anchors if your just interested in doing the first pitch.
cathey's creek has sport routes - not moderate though....some place called little black form or derivation there of - ask around town. Obed-TN isnt far from asheville for a day trip. NRG, RRG further out. Like others have said, there are sport routes kind of littered at more traditional crags. The suggestion for the high country is good - little wilson, the dump.
