Read the link. The Tower has had, for the last 20 years or so, a voluntary climbing closure during the month of June, out of respect to Native American beliefs and the role the Tower plays in them.

Some respect the closure, others don't, but whatever you do, be respectful during the time, either by staying on the ground or minimizing your impact as much as possible.
