I have really wide feet. Fitting shoes is a night mare. I have been using Merrill's 8.5 W for approach shoes, but have ripped the side out on a scramble.
I would like to get a shoe with better traction on scrambling crawl ups and boulders and was looking at different approach shoes. None seem to be made in wide sizes.
I have already been to the local stores and have come up empty handed.
So the question of the days is: Is anyone shoe savvy enough to know which brands of approach shoes tend to be wider than the rest?
My five ten guide tennies will fit my 8eee feet, though the toe box is low. My toes felt like they were pinched from the top when I first got them. But after a few trips out to hot climbing areas and standing all day in them, the leather has stretched out and they are very comfy and they climb well..
No, i actually got them short at 7.5 because I wanted them to climb well. The fact that they're leather allowed them to stretch out to fit better as time passed..
I tried the 5.10 Guide Tennis, but couldn't get even remotely comfortable.
I bought a pair of Scarpa's. Went a 1/2 size over. A little tight in the toes so will break them in slowly. They already paid for themselves today. Hiking the Crack in the Ground near Fort Rock Oregon, wound up being a bouldering trip. Shoes held great on the basalt. My partner had regular hiking boots and slipped, pulling her shoulder. Hahaha, she thought I was buying them because they were pretty.....
