Mammut Twilight 7.5

So Mammut decided to up the game of super light lines with the 7.5mm Twilight. 7.5!! I was able to get one of these lines on a deal I could not pass up and have really not used it because I don't have a belay device rated that small.

I rapped on it with a ATC-Guide with stacked carabiners and it did well, I have tied it to a thicker line and rapped that way and it worked great! My thoughts are that if you are going to haul a second cord on long routes or approaches for full length rappels you probably cant beat this cord for versatility and weight.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the opportunity to use the Twilight as a lead rope as I have not yet. If so, what did you use for a belay device. The reversino goes down to 7.5 but I currently don't have one. The ATC-Guide goes to 7.7 and might work, but when you load the line in the atc it sure looks small.

Thanks for any input.

i've never used things that thin...but look at the microjul by edelrid...they make a 6.9 rope set.

also petzl reversino is good to 7.5 and i guess eomthing called the matrix

thats a pretty high impact force for twin use....personally i'm a fan of more supple ropes than the mammut but they do wear well

cheers

Thanks for mentioining the micro jul. Never even knew it existed till now. Now the fun part of finding someone I know who has one and will let me borrow it long enough to figure out if it's worth the 40 bucks. Wonder if REI carries them ;)

My partner has a set of these(70m at 7.5mm), and I've been comfortable on free-hanging raps with a (grooved out)reverso 4. There is sufficient control and friction even with gloves, but a backup might be adviseable. The belay device specs are more of a reccomendation really.

I've had a pair of those for a couple of years. Used them on longer climbs in the Alps on a few trips.

I use the Reverso 3 or some such (newer Petzl model), no issues. I'm a 100 kilo feller too. 15 rappels in a row on a route in Switzerland summer before last. Other than a few expected tangles, no issues.

Used single and doubled in the Tetons as a light lead line. Nice hand. Sweet ropes.

Good experience with the Twilights. I use a Reverso 3/4 with two biners, no issues at all on rappels.

Take a look at the Omega Pacific SBG II: omegapac.com/itemdetail.php…

I use it with Edelrid 6.9 Flycatchers and it works very well. I don't know if it's rated for ropes that thin, but the narrow slots on it are tiny - you could probably rap off 5mm cord with this thing!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
