Good intentions leading to bad consequences.

Construction on someone else's property without a building permit tends to lead to eviction. Not to say the area doesn't need some erosion control features, but that is a bit over the top.

You guys have spent 88 pages complaining about MP? Go climbing or something, but get a life.

This platform *was* not about erosion control at all, it was more like a platform for belayers/bystanders.

James, it's just too tempting to deride certain content on the 'proj....

I don't get it...why was the MP thread nuked? Just the usual case of a thread being derailed to the point of name calling and tongue-stab jokes?

Beginner to Advanced welcome.

Weather: Mostly sunny, High 73, 0% rain, 4 mph wind

We will be climbing and working on the staging areas at the base of climbs at Connor's Playground. This sport ands traditional climbing area is located about 200 yards from the Gate Buttress Parking Lot. Recent publication of these routes means the area will likely see heavy traffic in the next few years. I would like to preempt the erosion damage that is likely to occur by hardening the staging areas.

The following items will be appreciated if you have them:

Any scrap lumber (especially treated 2x4s or 2x6s), rebar,

sledge hammers, shovels, rakes, picks, post hammers, bow saws, lumber saws, pruners,

money for additional hardware store items

The thread never got heated actually, it disappeared way before it had a chance.

That's 0.6 posts a day for 6 years distributed among 20+ people. Considering the fact that MP generates at least 20 staggeringly idiotic quotes a day I'd say this thread could be 10 times longer and still represent less time and effort on anyone's part than what you committed to the BLM vs. Bundy thread on the proj.
How dumb does a pot have to be to not even recognize a kettle?

Why? Seems like a completely relevant topic for MP (moreso than most threads here...)

Yes, why was the thread deleted? I had been following it and was curious about the half-built platform. An admin deleted the thread for a reason, and the thread wasn't out of control like so many on MP, so....let's hear it - why was this discussion deleted?

Presumably to limit exposure and the potential for access issues? I honestly have no idea. The whole contraption is gone but as you can see from the post above (from the meetup website) this is a whole group project spearheaded by one individual with quite the history in the local climbing community...

Yeah, whatever. Looks like you've got big plans to stay busy with.

So, you hate MP, the folks like me who post here are gumby's, and you are the lords of the sport.

Yeah, right, I'll believe that as soon as I get around to it. Like I said, you guys need to go climbing, or otherwise get a life.

You're missing the point. It's not about hate, it's about comedy.

Spending several years laughing at a BB, safely from a different BB, goes beyond comedy and absolutely implicates self-importance at the very least, self-loathing with high probability, and hatred only as a possible.

You're just pissed because half of those posts are yours.

Hahaha, I loathe myself! And what does "implicates....hatred only as a possible" mean?

James, you probably have no way of knowing this but utahclimbers.com has been around for longer than mp.com - mp.com was formed when climb-utah/boulder/moab.com merged and probably some more behind the scenes stuff happened, but utahclimbers.com was up and running for around 4 years prior to the 'proj launching in 2006. Who gives a shit if a older local forum is making fun of a newer global forum, it's not personal, it's more like human nature.

Quit derailing the thread, or as they say on another long-standing forum - quit c*****g up the thread.

Now I get it shaft, when you laugh at MP it's comedy, when I laugh at you it isn't.

I'm going back to my life now, it includes climbing, mt. biking, mountaineering, skiing, flyfishing, a little bit of working, and not engaging in internet meta-analysis of hobby/activity/affinity websites.

Your mileage may vary.

James, this is what I did with my life last night:

It's called graffiti removal, after the hard work was done I had a good time bouldering and having a few beers with friends.

WTF did you do? Tell me all about it, then kindly fuck off and quit derailing the thread.

soooooo has this structure been removed yet? I've got a framing hammer ready to demo some shit!

I haven't been up there myself, but from what I understand, it has. I plan on walking up there this weekend to see if any new construction is happening....
