My girlfriend and I parked at the Boulder Falls lot for a quick climb after work. As we walked off we noticed four obese people hanging around the lot but didn't give it much though. When we came back we found that all three of her credit cards were stolen with charges already pending. Luckily my trad rack was untouched. Just a friendly reminder to keep those valuables out of sight!
Well I would say you lucked out. My rack is worth far more than I have on my credit card and much harder to talk the rei guy into replacing my stolen cams than the bank refunding you for fraudulent purchases.
I had a water bottle, and alpine draw stolen when I had it jammed into a rock crack in the river to keep my water cold in clear creek canyon while climbing at high wire. Some train jumper kids waved at me as they went down to the river, flicked out the lemon slices from the bottle, took it with them, and waved at me as they walked back toward the road. Filthy heathens couldn't even appreciate a little lemon in their stolen water bottle.
Don't be complacent like I was in the CO canyons, not only climbers go there for many a reason. Keep valuables in the trunk, lock em up, keep an eye on yo shiyat.
