What kind of bolt is this? It's the bolt that I'm wondering about, not so much the hanger.

Old bolt

My best guess; an old Rawl 1/4' buttonhead split shank.
Where was this photo taken?
You see these all over places like Toulumne Meadows.

Enchanted Rock, Texas. Not very common there.

The sleeve doesn't show, which would indicate that it was placed underneath the hanger. That would be an odd choice, but possible. The head of the bolt appears flat in the photo. The Rawl "Drive" (aka: buttonhead) has a rounded dome head. The Star "Dryvin" has a flat head. The SMC hanger appears to be the latest generation which was stainless steel (late 1980s? and onward). I find it odd that a "Dryvin" would be paired with such an antiquated and inferior bolt. "Dryvins" mostly faded (or rusted) into obscurity a couple decades prior to SS SMC hangers. It would be more likely to see Dryvins paired with equally rusty Leeper or homemade hangers. Here's a link to a good photo of a Star "Dryvin." supertopo.com/photos/6/57/1…
Yeah, ya really gotta study it to pick out the star. But I think you're right. After Googling images of other Star Dryvins, it looks like that's what it probably is. The flat head and the odd combination of a rusty old bolt and a SS hanger is what got my attention. Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, it's oddly placed at the top of the Buffalo Boulder over on the West side of the park. Kind of a strange place for a bolt, since you can walk up and down the back of it.

It's a dryvin and you better give Hankster back his nail !

Awesome, that you recognized the pink granite. No doubt, it's distinctive. And Indeed, sharp.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
