Anyone have an idea of what the packed size if a rope is (ie liters)? Say like a 10mm 70meter.

Maybe 15-20L, that's just a shot in the dark though.

Picture an REI Flash 18 pack. Will a 70m 10mm fit in there? I'm not sure, just wanted to suggest a reference point.

I would look at a 30-35 liter (1700-1800 cubic in.)if just a generic bag only.

This is what I use. Works well and has an attached fold out tarp that keeps your stuff clean.

this could be a good frame of reference

canyonsandcrags.com/CMC-Rop…

they describe the rope thickness at 1/2 inch. that is 12.7 mm which is way bigger that your 10 mm

i think somewhere between 20 and 30L?

Correction to previous post. Had to find out for myself. Have to give Jonathan credit for the first correct answer.

For some reason I can't post photos, but I took some and will post from computer when I can.

I packed a Mammut 60m 10.2mm Gravity Classic in a Sealine 20 liter dry bag and had enough room to fold the top of the bag back over onto itself over the packed rope. Almost to where the top opening was an inch or so from the bottom of the bag. There should be no trouble with another ten meters fitting and still having enough room to properly seal the bag.

I would say a rope your size would pack to a little less than 20 liters.

I'll upload the pictures when I'm not so lazy to figure out why I can't from my phone.

Mammut 60m 10.2mm Gravity Classic. 30 liter North Face Hot Shot backpack. Sealine 20 liter dry bag.

Rope packed in 20 liter Sealine dry bag.

I have a 60m 10.5 Mammut rope that, once compressed via the straps on the Metolius Ropemaster fits into my 22 liter daypack.

It also depends on how well you pack it. Spending the extra time to coil it efficiently will save on a bit of space.

Well compressed, I carry my 9.8mm/70m at about 20 liters (It take less than the half of my 50L Pack)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
