Does anyone in the Boston area have an Acadia NP guidebook I could borrow for the weekend? I've been trying to find one but I don't feel like spending $120 for a used copy on Amazon. I'd be more than happy to buy a six pack in exchange.

Here's a fresh (released this year) guide book. Only in a digital format for now (7.99) but I believe coming out in print soon...

I was thinking Otter Cliffs and the Precipice. The Rakkup guide looks like a good option for Otter Cliffs.

South Wall is "climber" for precipice, so the Rakkup guide covers that as well

I have this Rock Climb New England book. amazon.com/Rock-Climbing-En…

I know it covers otter cliffs - I was just up there a few weeks back and the book was more than sufficient. I am not sure what it has on Precipice, but I can check when I get home.

According to NPS, precipice cliff is closed through august nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/…

Just the hiking trail - not the documented part of the climbing area. You don't access the documented part of the climbing via the hiking trail.

Good to know, thanks for clarifying Eric!

Yea, we go through this every year. The closure affects the Precipice TRAIL, not the cliff. I wish the NPS would get on the ball re. the terminology; it really matters. My $0.02 - the climbing on the precipice cliff puts Otter to shame. Seaside is great, but if you're there on a weekend, it's overly busy. "Course one needs to be able to lead (ideally at 5.7 or beyond) to get the best out of a day at the Precipice cliff.

I actually called up to the park headquarters at Acadia today and confirmed that it is indeed just the precipice trail that is closed and not the cliff itself. This map was also posted on the NPS website showing the closed area.

When we climbed Otter over a year ago we stopped at a climbing store looking for a guide book, they had some hand drawn diagrams for about $10. Very specific beta. Sorry don't remember the name of the store It was on Main street on the east side.

The confusion as to whether or not the climbing area near the Precipice is closed is, in part, why I chose to stick to calling that area "The South Wall". And as has been already posted, those routes are indeed open.

The Rakkup guide currently covers Otter Cliffs, the South Wall, and Great Head. Over the course of the next year, it will be updated to be comprehensive to the island. The guidebook itself is due out next spring.

I just saw this post reappear in a related Acadia thread, so I thought I'd just update it to say that the new guidebook is now available. The digital guide has also been updated and it now covers just about every route that the book does. If you're interested, rockclimbsofacadia.com has more info.
