We think the bug is fixed and released version 2.8 a few minutes ago. There are a few reports that it's working, so we think this is solved.

Delete the current version and install 2.8 from here:
play.google.com/store/apps/…

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble!

Still crashing on Galaxy Note 3

I downloaded to my iphone 4 with iOS 6.1.3 and it didn't work. Won't launch at all

Bummer, guess I should have gotten the old version sooner. IOS 6.0.1 on my 4s and there's no way I'm upgrading and ditching my jailbreak. Oh well, looks like I'm just going to have to lug around books.

I too just updated the app, only to have it crash every time I try to open it. Deleted the app and reinstalled it, powered off phone then rebooted, all to no avail. Running IOS 6.1.3 on iPhone 4.

Having identified (and fixed for most people) the problem that affected Android users, we now suspect the same thing is affecting some older Apple products. We're going to release a new version, but unlike Android, Apple requires us to get every change reviewed and approved by them, which takes 7-10 days.

Sorry for the delay, but hopefully we've proven that we listen and try our best to make things right. If you don't want to wait, and your device is using iOS 6 but new enough to work with iOS 7, it is likely that will fix the problem.

About the ads... Of the three current "ads", two are actually great climber videos. It's a hell of a lot better than traditional ads, and BD will continue to make this kind of content every few weeks. And I appreciate that people would like an ad-free experience, and we may offer some kind of ad-free option in the future. That will be a ways off if we decide to do it though - it's complicated and we have a lot of features that will come first.

Nick-- I have an android phone (nexus 4; Android Version 4.4.2) . The 2.7 version would crash right when opening. I uninstalled it, downloaded the 2.8 version-- it now will show the mountainproject logo, then the black diamond logo, before crashing. So I'm not sure the problem is fixed.

The font color/background (light grey on light grey) in the route search field on the main page is very difficult to read especially in direct sunlight. Slightly easier to read when searching from a route page (grey on white).

Re ads: would it be possible for the ads to scroll away in the Area Detail and Route List pages as they do on the Route Detail pages? As they did in the previous release? This would go a long way to making the ads more palatable.

We've released version 2.9 for Android, which should fix a few (much less widespread) bugs that some of your were seeing. And our updated version for iOS 6 is awaiting approval from Apple, which will hopefully only take a couple days.

Seems great, thanks to all!

Just downloaded it to my iPhone 5s from Taiwan with no issues.
Uploaded the area, and it opened perfect!

I don't find the BD ads obtrusive and think Nick should be commended for working out the deal with BD and making the app free. And from my memory there have always been ads on MP web and the app. For the folks that want ad free and don't want to use the app - don't use it. Good luck finding something as useful as MP that's ad free.
And what about for those that don't know what they are talking about?

The original version of the MP mobile app was paid and was ad free.
Early adopters will remember it. I paid for it twice, but then there was an "update" that said there was a user interface improvement or something along that sort, but the only visible change to the user was the addition of advertisements. I didn't update the second device for almost a year to avoid the addition of the ads. Then by accident I update it. I have gotten used to them over time, but the new update made the ads more intrusive yet again. For example, since you cannot scroll them out of the way in all screens, it blocks a large portion of screen space. In landscape mode half of the screen is unusable space. I can only see 4 lines of text on the iphone in landscape when looking at areas. Not that I do this often, but just to point out that half of the screen might as well be cracked and broken since you can't use it anyway.

Also the startup time is significantly slower. I'm sure I'll get used to it, but the BD logo at startup takes too long to disappear before I can access the app. Its like going back to using dial up speeds after having fiberoptic internet. It irritates me every time I have to open the app.

I would gladly pay for an ad free version again (I already have paid for the app twice anyway) but if there is no plan for an ad free version, can we at least get the app back to a quicker startup and scroll the ads out of the way on ALL screens?

DrAp

My original MP app was FREE, which was
Before the the paid one you speak of.

On another note...

You can't make all of the people happy
All of the time. This shit is free!
Get over it, what a great service we get!!
Free !!

Yep, same as Cor here. Original app was both free and ad free. I think that's the one I'm still running as I have yet to see an ad on the mobile app...

+1 for an add free app that you pay for.

If the adds are even slightly annoying I will delete the app in a heartbeat. Nothing against BD but I have to deal with that shit too much as it is, and will happily pay to avoid it.

Apple sped through a review of fixed-up version (2.6) of the MP app that we hope will solve the problems some of you saw on iOS 6 with older devices. You can download here.

We're hoping this fixes everything for Android and iOS!

Thanks for the quick fix and getting it pushed through. I didn't have any issues but always appreciate bug fixes getting done quick so others can enjoy it. Love the app. Just dislike the ads, but thanks for putting together such a useful program.

Hmmm...Still crashes on me. It shows the Mtn proj logo, but then crashes. I turned the phone off and restarted it and all of that too. Running IOS 6.1.3. Anyone else still having issues?

Jamie K. · · Unknown Hometown · Joined May 2013 · Points: 238

Thanks for posting the update quickly. The latest version of the MP app (2.6 build 49) is working fine on my iphone 3s with iOS 6.1.6.

We've had few reports of the iOS freezing for ~10 seconds when opening photos. If this is happening to you, deleting the app and reinstalling it seems to fix it. We're looking into the long-term solution.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
