I have climbed about 5 walls with a swivel... I just hope to god that they don't break. I think this is what a lot of people do. so, how do you back up this little device if you do at all?

The only way I could think of doing it is this, take a 2-7 foot long piece of dynamic 8mm or something, tie figure 8s on each end, and attach to the pig and haul rope, this would tangle like crazy but hopefully not make the swivel not work?

So how do you back it up if you do at all?

I don't. Mine is rated for something like 35 kN, and i have never heard of one breaking. Also, I don't use mine for any life support applications, so a failure would not be directly life threatening.

Never used a swivel, but wouldn't this defeat the whole purpose of one?

A swivel is one of those things like a harness or a rope where you just assume it won't break, because it won't. Mine is rated to 26 kN, and there is no conceivable wall situation where I would apply even a third of that force.

Yes it would.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
