Description Suggest change

This is a great after work crag if you're based in C'ville, plus you can hit up a brewery on the way home! Chances are you will be the only one at this crag at any time aside from an occasional hiker.

This place is full of high quality, grippy granite, similar to Old Rag. West facing rock makes for great sunset climbing, though the exposure can make it windy at times. Mostly trad climbing, though there are some decent sport lines and a TR can even be set up on several walls.

Getting There Suggest change

From HWY 664, turn onto Wintergreen Drive and start up the hill. In 2.3 miles, take a right on Blackrock Drive (after the gas station.) Take the next right onto Black Rock Circle. The small parking area is a circular gravel area on the right .2 miles (450 meters, to be exact) from this intersection, tucked between two houses. There is an established hiking trail here with a sign that leads down to "The Plunge."

Follow the yellow blazed Blackrock trail downhill to find the rock. It eventually intersects with the red blazed Brimstone trail, which continues straight and turns right downhill.  Turn right to go down Brimstone trail, which will take you to the base of most of the crags.  The first area you come to is the "beginner slab" area off the trail about 150 feet to your right.  Around the corner to the left of the beginner slab is "the cracks" area and you cannot see it directly from the trail.  Follow the base of the beginner slab around to the left to find "the cracks" area.  Continue down Brimstone trail, until you see a flat area just off the trail to the right with an overhanging boulder.  Walk under that boulder and follow the rock down about 50 feet to get to the "self potential" area on your right.  It takes less than 10 minutes to get from the parking lot to to the bottom of the beginner slab.
