Am I the only one who is a bit bothered by the ads that came with the new app? I think its great the app is free for anyone now, but I think there should be a difference between a paid version and a free version.. for example no 2" ads for the people who paid for the app!

That'd be nice. It also seems to lag a bit and half the time when I go back a page it doesn't load any page until the larger area page. I gotta a buddy I've been hounding to get the app for months and he finally did on Tuesday, haha two days before it's free. Needless to say he is frustrated, even though it's only $5, he is forced to see ads now before ever getting to use it without them.

Eh the ads don't bother me that much. I am mostly excited since it sounds like there will be some consistent resources to improving the app now.

+1 for an ad free version. It's rad that it's free, but why should I have to see ads when I've already paid for it.

The money I spent for MP is totally worth the cause. Just bugged that now I have advertisements for now a free app. Ironic that I finally just bought it less than a month ago.

Agreed. Like MP but a bit annoyed that I bought the app not long before it became free and now I still have to deal with advertisements taking up valuable screen real estate. As a customer I would have liked to at least get a email explaining what was happening.

It is just a big disappointment to see ads in the app. The ads are an annoying distraction when Im trying to quickly look for route beta. I would never browse or buy gear through the app. I would much rather pay $10+ for the app every year to eliminate ads in the app.

Ads really detract from any mobile UI.. the user has this subconcious anxiety about accidentally tapping the ad. The conversion rate on mobile ads is dismal, so you gotta wonder why BD felt it was necessary. It already shows their logo bigger than the MP one, so no one's missing their contribution. You could argue that they'd do better if they took the ads off--they'd be doing the climbing world a solid without ostentatious concern for profit-- and that's the kind of customer's friend marketing that works right now.

I would rather pay 5 bucks and have no ads then get it for free and deal with all the ads. Also when I did the update and click on photos the app freezes! Does this happen to anyone else?

Does this happen to anyone else? This was also in the "Announcement" thread linked to above, but in case people don't see that: 1. A paid-for, ad-free version is a long-term possibility, but not soon. BTW, BD's "ads" are actually amazingly good content (videos we'd probably all enjoy), and not pushing products. Give them at least a small chance. 2. Yes, there is a freezing issue with photos after an auto-update (it last 10-15 seconds). We have a new version being approved by Apple that will fix this, and if you don't want to wait a few days, doing a clean install of the app (delete it from phone first) will solve the problem in some cases.

arent most apps really making money on the buying/selling of personal information (mostly for advertising reasons)?

On my iPhone 5s (for whatever that's worth..) I can use my finger(s) to move the add out of the way. Or say off the screen. And once in an "area" it is pretty much gone. How is this hogging up the screen? Or have peeps not realized the power of the phone? On another note, go buy some stock in BD. You could make some money if you hold onto it, as climbing gets more and more main stream... Then maybe the ads won't bother you so much! ;)

I think we should either be refunded the $5 or given an option to turn ads off. I don't regret spending the $5,but I freaking hate ads. I always buy the ad free version of any app I use somewhat frequently.

This is true, but it's the context that makes the ads so annoying -- regardless of how good the videos are. I use the MP app when I'm out at a crag, trying to find a given route or trying to get a bit of last minute beta for a route I'm about to get on. The last thing I'm going to want to do is put my climbing day on hold (and make my climbing partner/partners sit around) while I watch a video, even if it's a video that I would happily watch (and even share with friends) if I were sitting around at home on my computer. In any event, sincere congratulations on your deal with BD.

I've had problems with the new app freezing every time I try to load a photo. This was never an issue with the old app. Anybody else having this problem?

Brian, Delete the app and reinstall it. I believe this is the "fix" until the issue is fully resolved. Cheers John

Congrats on your deal with BD. Honestly though, I'm a bit bummed by ad placements at a time when I don't usually have internet to look at what they're advertising anyway. I came across this, not very common, view the other day which is no less than three BD ads in one place. Awesome. I'll even up the $5 offer. I think you're worth at least $20. Or that 15% more of your app on my screen is worth $20.
