Been on the hunt for some climbing partners. Primarily bouldering in the area.

Let me know.

Sooner or later will probably look to do a trip to Ohiopyle for some sport climbing

Bouldering tomorrow morning, anyone? come on don't be shy.
Some great rocks I've been hitting up, little 9footers up to 20footers. Something for everyone.

bump

Getting to be about that time to get back out after a long break from anything climbing related partly because weather partly because injury.

Excited to revisit some old problems/routes and also excited to check out some new spots that might have something to offer.

Hit me up, experienced or inexperienced, doesn't matter it's always a good time.

Getting pretty nice around here for some bouldering. Would like to check out a new mostly undocumented place with tons promising good looking rock over the next few weeks. Would be nice to have a spotter, heck, just someone to climb with for a change.

Parking & approach are good and easy.

don't be shy now.

Unfortunately, I'm on the other side of the state, but I'd like to commend you for the stellar job you seem to be doing with these two areas:
Flood Rocks
Beam Rocks

Informative and full of pictures. Good stuff.

^ thanks!

I have been enjoying documenting these areas. The Beam's Rock area has a lot of great rock, the pictures don't do it justice. Once I get a better lay out of the area I wish to create a detailed topo of the rocks, even if I'm the only person who climbs there lol

There are a few other areas near by that I need to check out and document yet that are on State land and open to the public.

There is one place I have only been once, tons of rock, a good bit of it is out of my ability. Would love to have someone who is truly skilled check it out and see how much of it is send-able. Access is...well a gray area but I don't envision any problems ;) I'm thinking ill go there this weekend, perhaps ill snag some pics, but it will remain off the radar for the most part, at least until I find out more about it.

We got a little bit of rain in the area this week but things should dry up fairly quick, awesome temps for climbing in the area.

Ill be out and about like normal

Joe,

I'll be a little tied up with work for the next couple of months but I'll keep ya in mind for the spring time. Sport climbing at ohiopyle sounds good

sounds like a plan, I should have some time off come early April. Will see how it plays out.

Climbing is currently mostly at a standstill in the area but looking ahead to better climbing weather.

Will be doing normal local bouldering type stuff on a fairly regular basis, anyone is welcome.

There is one place in particular ~ 1hr away that I would really like to check out this summer if anyone is interested. I haven't been able to find any info about climbing there seems to be off the radar. Planning on making a day of it, short road trip, some mild hiking and with any luck a little climbing. Should make for a fun time no matter the outcome of the rocks but I am optimistic on the rock quality

I'm not exactly in your area but if you make it east and north a little(wilkes-barre) and want some locals to climb with let me know. Ice season is currently in full swing here if you climb that stuff? We have some top notch ice stuff to climb too. You mention a place that is ~1hr away from you, if this is in the eastward direction I might be able to meet you on a Saturday to explore a potential area when it warms up a little.

Joe L 82 · · PA · Joined Aug 2013 · Points: 735

Never been ice climbing, but thanks for the invite.

Wilkes-Barre is a bit of a drive, (over 3hr) the place I am looking to check out wouldn't be any closer as it is a little South.

Either way, ill keep you in mind, maybe you will be feeling adventurous and like a road trip.

On another note, Forecast is calling for low 40's and sun on Saturday, ill probably be out and about somewhat locally bouldering if I can find some dry rock all are welcome

Thinking in the up coming weeks I am going to go on the scouting trip I mentioned a few months ago.

Figure it will be easiest to get out there now before the vegetation grows up and since the temps in the area have been great IMO, high 40's low 50's with sun, prefect for getting outside for some hiking.

I have a game plan... ok not really just get there and go for a hike, maybe climb some things worth while that i find.

Should be some bouldering for sure, and maybe some TR or trad routes.

Area's of interest is between Somerset and Bedford to give you an idea, If you are interested and your travels would bring you somewhat close to me, we could meet up and I could drive the rest of the way there.

No set date, fairly open, would like to be on the road some what early to give plenty of time to check things out.

if you just like getting outside and hiking should be a fun trip.

post or shoot me a message

Bouldering on weekends throughout the area as always. Anyone of any skill level interested in getting on some rock let me know.

there is an organized clean up happening on Sept 26th at Beam Rocks in the Laurel Highlands/Forbes State Forest. Check out the SWPACC on FB for more info if interested here facebook.com/swpacc

Lots bouldering and some top rope there as well as some more difficult boulders that are not on the route guide that have been recently projected or sent by a Pittsburgh climber.
