My friend called and el paso county stated the road repairs have been finished for a couple of months and that the road is (and has been for many months) open to local traffic. the hold up is forest service re-opening the trails, which if true, isn't surprising given their record of closing trails down in the Colorado Springs area.

I suspect the impetus for the road re-opening will be when the Broadmoor wants to get the rich folk up to the stables and the retreat they have up there.

Perhaps this is something the newly formed Pikes Peak Climbers coalition could take up?

The road is open from the Cripple Creek side. I haven't driven to the overlook, only to a property on the cripple creek side. I would say it is worth the effort, as the closure was on the Colorado Springs side of the overlook.

I'm away from a good computer and maps, but double check where the a Teller/ El Paso county line is. This will help determine how far the road is closed based on your link.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
