Camping for Mt. Russell.

Hey All,
I'm going to be doing a high sierra climbing trip this summer and was hoping for some beta on where to camp in the Whitney Portal area to do routes on Mt. Russell and the East Buttress of Whitney. If you were going to set up a "base camp" in that area, would you camp at Iceberg Lake or Upper boy scout lake? What area would provide the best access to routes on Mt. Russell? Does anybody ever go all the way around to Arctic lake?

We are definitely going to be headed to the Hulk, and that seems pretty straight forward, but we need a peak or two to do in between the Whitney Portal area and the Hulk. Any suggestions for classic Sierra routes? I'm interesting in Temple peak, Mt. Conness, and so many more.

Then we're off to the Elephant's Perch...

Thanks for any beta

If you're climbing routes on Russell and Whitney, camp at Iceberg Lake.

Also, here is a recent thread discussing classic Sierra climbs:

Make sure you get a permit for the North Fork or all your planning will be for nothing.

The only reason to camp at Upper Boy Scout is to do the East Ridge on Russell , which is a fine route BTW ... The approach from Iceberg to Fish Hook or Mithral on Mt. Russell is 90 minutes top, more like 60 minutes if you're in any kind of shape...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
