For a free weekend of sport which would you guys suggest to break up a drive through PA - Birdsboro or Safe Harbor?

Buffum, It is a different Elmira, a very small town. It was 1998, and I was guiding in the Dacks. Like I said, find a local.

Depends what you're in the mood for - Safe harbor has alot of slab climbing with a few steep routes. It's actually along a 100 year old railroad cut. It's south-southwest facing and gets sun most of the day (bad when it's hot out). It also tends to seep a bit after it rains.

Birdsboro tends to be steeper, but a little poorer rock quality. There are large sections of it which stay dry in lite rain. Birdsboro is denser packed than safe harbor. It is actually in an old quarry, more than half the routes are north facing and see no sun (good for a hot day). I definitely recommend helmets at the bird, loose rocks are common.

There are guides available online for both.

I don't see any towns other than the Central NY Elmira... (?)

Sure you're not thinking of [North] ELBA?

For some reason it seems like there are very few sport routes in the northeast in general. Is there anywhere I can go for a weekend overnight trip (or closer) from NYC that has multiple good sport routes in my range? I moved here from Austin which has TONS of sport routes so I'm surprised to see there isn't much up here.
I have a list of about 300 sport lines up here in the 'daks. If you email me, I'll send you the list dude... There's probably another 20-30 sport lines added each year you won't find in a book. Ya gotta be a local to know these things... heh heh heh Rumney is probably your best bet for alot of different grade sport lines, the entire crag other than a few lines, has been bolted. Other than that, it's a few here, and a few there at each place. Mostly in the daks, not much under 10 has been bolted. Potter Mtn has alot of bolts, but it's kinda slabby climbing. there's a few other places as well that most probably won't know about.

They're not that far apart, you could hit both if you were here for a weekend and wanted to.

This map connects the two parking lots.

West Point, NY or the newly established Powerlinez but there are only a few sport climbs - these are your ONLY options for a day trip.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
