The Southern Arizona Climbing Coalition is holding another trash clean up on Mount Lemmon. We removed a lot of trash during our first clean up in November, but unfortunately there is a whole lot more.

Come out for a half day on Saturday, May 10th, and help make your mountain a little cleaner. Coffee and bagels will be provided, as well as trash bags. There also will be some prizes awarded.

Schedule:
9:00am........Meet at the BLOC (8975 E Tanque Verde Rd) and sign in
9:30am........Safety briefing, and then head up the mountain to pick up trash
12:00-1:00pm..Drop off collected trash at Windy Point collection area
1:30pm........Event is officially over. Go climbing or something...

Please bring:
- Gloves if you have them (we will have some available if you don't)
- Vehicle (we cannot provide transportation)
- Sturdy shoes, water, and sun protection (all of the basics)

This will be a fun event, with time to meet and mingle with members of the climbing community.

Please donate a few hours of your time to come out and make difference.

Hope to see you there...

So, just a little bumpity bump... and a pic of the trash I picked up in 3 min walking back to the car after a scouting mission earlier this week. This was literally from 100' of highway or less and I ran out of bag space and fingers to stick bottles on and ended up leaving some behind.

I will be there and hope to see YOU there too!!!

Trash from <100' of lower highway.. sad :(

Amen to that^^^^.

I was surprised by the huge 50+ person turnout. I took my mother as a pre-Mothers-Day activity and she was blown away by how many people came out on a Saturday to pick up trash! But we were both saddened by the fact that we pulled at least 50 lbs of trash from the prison camp parking lot and campground, lots of it only steps away from a trash can :(.... the disregard some people have for the outdoors is amazing, especially considering that the trash was left by people who care enough to make the effort to get outside in the first place.

A simple thing everyone can do is every time you go out climbing put a grocery bag in your pack and on the hike out tie it to the outside of your pack and pick up what trash you can on your way out. It literally takes 1-2 min more than just walking out and you can usually fill a grocery bag up every time you climb.

On another note does anyone know where I can find a copy of the group photo that was taken in front of the Bloc? My mom want's a copy.

A big thank you to everyone who came out for this event!

We had nearly 70 volunteers, and picked up over 100 bags of trash - It took 2 FS trucks to haul it all way.

Thank you for giving back to your local climbing area, supporting access, building positive relationships with the Forest Service. These events are important for us as climbers to be recognized as a positive force.
