I spent several weekends up at the Bald over the winter, but never got around to climbing Flappin in the Breeze. Still want to tick it off before it gets too hot. This weekend is looking pretty nice, but when do the bugs and poison ivy start to win out over climbing up there? Also, any thoughts on the route? Picked up some micro-nuts and couple of ball nuts for the thin section.
if the ticks and poison ivy dont get ya, the heat might, but you should be fine if you go early in the day.

Flappin is not one of my favorite routes at RB. There are some tenuous run-outs and some do-not-fall places, but in general the bolts and pro are right where you need them. THe route wanders a lot and has some friction moves, so cold temps do help. I found it pretty easy to get off route on the 3rd pitch and only found the correct one on the second go. In all, I think there are much better routes at RB and it is not one I will probably ever repeat. 75 and sunny at RB sounds pretty warm to me.
Thanks for the beta guys, especially csproul. Ended up just going bouldering up at Blowing Rock today. Forgot how hard that pebble wrestling crap is, and just how much I hate bouldering. After seven days straight climbing in Red Rocks last week I was just not up for packing up the gear and hiking in for multi pitch. Maybe next weekend.
