You don't do this. Admit it. You dream about it. You even brought some WD-40 once in your backpack once and chickened out.

I have been setting routes for years and have never named any of them with one exception. The gym I set at have names for routes so I let others name my routes for me. As for distinguishing among routes, I usually say something like "that white mid .11 at Station 59". Most/all gyms give numbers to all climbing "stations", even the lead-only ones.

Well, if given the choice between "mid .11 at Station 59" and "Nympho Goth Biker Chick Rendezvous"...?

You know?

I used to climb there when I lived in atl. I always thought that was cool too. I also liked how they would open up the grade for consensus after it was set (there was a little sheet with options like 5.10-, 5.10, 5.10+, 5.11-, etc.). I think I remember they also had some kind of "style" consensus thing like "crimpy", "pumpy", etc.

My favorite was one time when they set a bunch of routes and put question marks for the grade for like a week or so. Pretty cool idea I thought.

Oh and matching color holds >>>> taped holds. Most gyms just can't afford enough holds to do that (at least that's my guess as to the reasoning).

As far as gyms go, stone summit is pretty legit.

Have you been stalking me? ;) This did remind me however that a hold spun on me last night during my traverse and I forgot to tell the staff. Maybe I'll just "X" it the next time I go in.

Unironically agree with this. The only complaint I have about the names my gym gives its routes is that they aren't creative enough.

I'm working on an app for that.

Well, it's just me alone in a room with a six pack.

This^^^

Also, if you maggots were doing it right, you'd only be climbing the cracks at the gym.

Who says the cracks can't be named?

This makes me want to bring a sharpie and X a handhold and put wd40 on the foot below it. That way no one will think to look at the foothold to clean it off.

I only climb outside so I can crush in the gym. The gym is for real yo. FA's in the gym are cool because one day it will go away.

No doubt, bro. They really liked it when we brought our rack and placed cams.

Add to that, we should upload them to the MP database as well so I can snag some ticks. Then it would be possible for me to tick 1000 "routes" without even stepping foot outside!

Naming routes is funny, doesn't bother me. HOWEVER if they could be more accurate with the grading that would be cool. Everything under 5.12 at my gym is never any harder than a 5.9 and no I am not super pro awesome strong :) Should just grade them mild to spicy.

Somebody retro-bolted my FA in the gym. What? Jaws of Life on this chop job. Anybody need some hangers?

Holy curmudgeon thread.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
