Stop it. Plastic holds on a wood wall don't need names that show the world your route setting artistic creativity. A grade and tape color will suffice, thanks.

Is this a nationwide trend or just where I am this week?

Does this really matter?

No, but its Friday, people are bored at work waiting for the weekend

And its more relavent than most of the noob banter this week.

Ahhh..... Friday rant.

Here's one......stop taping the dark blue next to the dark purple tape. It's too hard to tell the difference. :)

Gym route names I'd like to see:

1. Plastic isn't the only thing I pulled on today

2. Pssssatt

3. What's with all the fucking kids running around this fucking gym?

Yes! I hate it when the crux is finding the correct tape color. Climbing outside is way easier. ;)

stone summit in atl lets the FA name it...kinda cool i guess...but the whole blue holds next to purple holds or yellow routes with different manufacturer holds (i.e. yellow -> dark yellow -> yellow-greenish) can get annoying...I wish they taped routes...feel like that would be a little easier...oh well, i should just go outside anyways...

Without route names in the gym, how can I spray to my grandchildren about that 5.hard that I did during the Stone Age???

I think route names in the gym is a great idea, in fact, it should be mandatory.

My gym started naming them a couple of years ago. My partner and I like to change a letter or two in acts of poetic terrorism. I tried to just name a nameless one yesterday. I hope it stuck...

What's more annoying to me, is when gyms give a route a specific YDS grade without opening it up to a consensus. I could care less if they want to name it, in fact, I think it's sort of entertaining.

Jesus, anything to make the mirthless plastic pulling more entertaining is welcome.

This wins as most pointless thread ever to be created on MP. Congrats everyone!

I find that spraying WD-40 on key footholds provides great entertainment (and lots of cussing). ;)

Not every thread can be as useless as Supertopo, but we try.

You look to see the name of the route setter and the number of stars it gets.

"No, no, not Shamus' 4 star pink 5.11, his 3.5 star pink 5.11, dude."
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
