Does anyone know if any established boulders lie within the Birkhead Wilderness near Asheboro NC. We did a short Backpacking trip there and I stumbled on a good 15+ft boulder similar to the ones at Asheboro boulder field. Tempted to explore a bit more.

There is one notable boulder field in uwharrie. Not great, some of the taller boulders were even were bolted / some cut at one point. Known for having some of the boulders scared by people cutting holds into them.

I have heard of other scattered boulders throughout the park but not heard of any solid concentration of them besides the one area.

Interesting. Sounds like the southern Uwarries? Not Birkhead. Funny thing is one time, long ago, I was wandering around Badin Lake off a forest service road and found an overhanging "wall" about 15 high with an old bolt and glued on plastic holds.

There are boulders scattered around the Uwharries (Birkhead is the Northern Uwharries). If you drive 64 west from Asheboro you can see a few off in the woods. As far as I know the best concentration is at Ridge's Mountain (the Asheboro Boulders leased by the CCC). Wouldn't surprise me if there were decent boulders scattered around that region.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
