I'll be beginning a two and a half month climbing trip in Turkey and Greece arriving in Isranbul on May 6th. My partners arrive on the 19th so I've got some time before they get there. If anyone is gonna be in Western Turkey and looking to climb there are plenty of crags to explore. I don't want to go to Antalya though cause I'll be spending a month there later. Otherwise I'm up for anything. I'll have sport gear... and a huge smile!
So I've been checking out information on a place called Karkaya. It's granite and gneiss and has trad, sport and bouldering. I'm not bringing a trad rack but we could hit up all the sport routes and play around on some boulders. It's near the city of Eskisehir so it would be a good spot for me to hang out til my friends arrive and we head to Greece. Would you want to climb there with me? All the info I've seen talks about camping and I wasn't planning on bringing a tent but I suppose I could. What do ya think?
Unfortunately my wife and I are just leaving Turkey in a few days, otherwise we'd love to climb together with you! But according to this year's Petzl Roctrip there's good bouldering at Bafa Lake, which is a little ways north of Bodrum. And Olympos is absolutely beautiful with cheap places to stay and eat.
Also if you can get out east a bit, we just got back from Kemaliye (in Erzincan province) and there's 30+ routes ranging from 5.5-5.13! It's a great little area.
