Is leaving your dog at the base of multipitch climb really Animal abuse?
I always feel bad for those dogs owned by homeless people. The dog's gotta be thinking, "This is the longest walk ever." -or- "What the hell, I could do this on my own. Thanks for the leash." |

Doggays at da crag? |
I will be bringing benadryl to the crag a from now on. I will drug your dog, kid you not, if I see it tied up and barking uncontrollably. |
I will drug them too. I am a true believer in chemical restraints. Don't mind if your pooch a little too mellow at the end of your climbing outing. |
Seriously, go with 25 mg for a smaller guy 50 for a huskier fellow. Hey, if you don't get to use it on the dogs, keep it in the backpack in case your buddy has an allergy or something. |
Absolutely safe for animals. In fact recommended by vet for long trips with nervous dogs. |
This is amazing...I often have Benadryl in my pack. |
....or you can call a number for animal control and an officer will issue a citation to the owner of a barking dog that disrupts peace in public. That actually does make the owner think twice before bringing their dog to the crag. You can take down their plate number too and discretely file a complain |
Depends in the dog and the climbing area. If it's a low-volume climbing area I'll leave my dog ( who is not a barker) at the packs untied, with shade, and lots of water and he chills until we come down. If it's a busier area then no way because people can't be trusted. Some douchebag might try to "rescue" him or call the authorities... |
Yep. This chick kept leaving her chi wawa in a hotel room and going to work. I sleep during the day because of work schedule so I complained a few times to the people at the office and they kept saying they will talk to her. Finally I got fed up with the pesky barking and called the cops. The officer was super nice and guess what...no more barking dog...and the people at the office are really nice to me all of a sudden. Personal experience. I will in fact tell the officer that I am afraid of your barking dog and feel threatened by it. Which will step it up a notch. |

If I see an unattended animal on public land anywhere, I'm doing my best to haul it into the county / local animal control impound. |
One thing I discovered as a dog walker and dog owner in NYC- It is that people who are unhappy with something in their life and feel unable or are unwilling to make the changes needed to fix it, are the ones who take it out on dogs. |

Ryan - I am not referring to a dog in distress, but to attitudes like |

Jejejeleon/ellenor/elena sera jose, you've just confirmed every point that happiegrrrl made in her post. Now go take your meds, since you believe so strongly in chemical restraints. |
