Based on the current weather, poor nighttime freezing, and reports from CAIC nothing is firming up for a good ski. All the warm weather, dust layer from that big storm, and rain is expediting the shedding season. Hopefully it'll stabilize a bit before it all melts away.
I was just in the Elks last week. Other than the recent snow the underlying snowpack is quite stable(The recent is sloughing off with a bit of warmth). Yes, the freeze line is 10-11k ft, but that's not a huge problem when you are skiing a 14er.
I wouldn't be so gloomy. I would say it is worth a trip. YMMV
