Im looking to get a progression capture pulley for two reasons. First for hauling and second for cleaning trad pitches when i am rope soloing, so toprope solo. It looks like most people are using the minitraxion for TR solo but i looked at ST and their recommendation was the micro for TR solo.
Does anyone have any suggestions between the two? Looks like the micro has a larger wheel and is smaller/lighter. Havent been able to put my hands on them side by side so im imploring the help of someone who might have. Im also not planning on hauling very heavy loads for a while so i dont think my haul weight will be an issue.

Chris MacNamara reviews the mini and micros on SuperTopo Gear reviews and says they are both good. They both will do the job but he recommends the micro because it is smaller and lighter and has a bigger wheel.

I have 2 micros which I use for TR solo.

DO NOT GET THE MINI!!!!! GET THE MICRO!!!!!!

so a year ago I bought the mini traxion and thought it was cool and worked great which it does... I have TR soloed a bunch with it and hauled heavy stuff...

2 weeks ago I was on a gear hunt in yosemite and found a micro traxion!!! I have the 2 to compare and the micro is worlds beyond the mini. when you start soloing with the mini it takes 50+ feet of rope weight to start feeding. with the micro i was pleased to see that it took ~2 feet to start feeding which means you dont have to tie you pack for weight or anything... hauling is FAR better as well... the pigs feel like they are running up the rock and you are not losing very much if any energy through the pulley as supposed to the mini which feels like you are hauling off a carabiner compared to the micro.

if you ever get a chance to hold the 2 you would instantly chose the micro... lighter, more efficent, lower profile, and easy to use.

if it is a money thing and you find a mini for $20 you could buy it and still like it but will always want a micro... the micro is SOOOOOO worth the money bro.....

The Micro is the better device.

Another +1 for the micro. Love it for TP solo and it hauls better than a mini. Honesty the only reason to go with the mini is if you're super strapped for $$

What do you guys use to back up your micro for tr soloing? I have a mini and I was gonna grab a micro and play around to see which works better as the backup, any thoughts?

when I found my micro I took it TR soloing and sense I had a mini I just used that and the mini just made the micro suck at feeding... 2 micros would be the awsome way to do it!!! I have used a tiblock before too...

Either will work. On a lot of the stuff around me the pitches are shorter than 30M so I can run two strands and I use one of my ascendents on that other strand.

The new smaller and lighter Micro has a bigger pulley this means it work better. Also feeds easily when I use it as a TR solo belay device. It is smaller too. Oh I already wrote that. I also use a Camp Lift for TR soloing.
