Get this jacket. rei.com/product/855415/arct… .
Only about $600 after your dividend, and tax. The rock, mountains and ice will bow to your presence when you bestow your greatness upon them. Anything else is just crazy talk.---except for becoming the chalk baron, that is brilliant.

I dont shop too much at REI, but have their credit card so I typically get a decent sized dividend each year.
Currently I am in a small town in AZ and so there are no climbing shops to support.

I went ahead and took your advice Mike Belu and bought the jacket. I already spent my dividend but if the mountains will bow to me then who cares!!

Thanks for all the help!

After seeing a couple "sport-climbers" almost deck, the helmet is a big deal. I make most people wear one when they lead with me.

The atc guide is a waste. I've had the classic reverso, which was decent, the atc-xp, which is junk, the atc guide, stitch plates, several other fancy descenders and belay devices, and I always go back to the regular ATC, or other device just like it.

Quick draws are the biggest necessity for a sport rack.

Haha, my climbing partner and I don't usually wear helmets, but when we take newer people with us, we usually harass them into wearing one. Mostly until we can see that take a fall without flipping upside down.
The two of us used to run a climbing tower for a non-profit and helmets were required, so we're pretty used to them...

As far as multi-pitching, there isn't a lot of it available near me. The guide-style belay devices are cool for it, but I still usually just redirect the belay so I can wear the piece normally. For some reason I have myself convinced I can release my personal anchor and rap down the line to assist an injured/incapacitated second. I have no idea why a second would be incapacitated, but it's a thought I had somewhere along the line and it works for me.

I guess the right answer for the OP would be "IMO, I wouldn't buy a belay device that has the jaws in it, like the atc-xp or atc-guide. I feel like I get locked when I don't want to be." YMMV
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
