Hi, for the Great Exception route within Wichita Wildlife Refuge, is there a way to complete the route on top without doing a rappel? Climb to top & traverse down the ridge line or over to the other side?

Thank you,
Mary

Climb up "Buns Up" and top out. Then hike to your car.

It's pretty easy to continue up the easy corner above the P1 belay anchor and then cruise left under the huge roof to a walk off gully. (Fun climbing as well...) As for going to the top and over, you would probably want to try and head right to gain easier terrain to the top. Not sure exactly where you would cut over though.

I addition to Buns Up, harder options would be The Leap or Aid Corner. The easiest option, one that I really enjoy as a way to topout, can be done by walking down the block from the anchor, pulling onto the slab above and to climber's right, and climb runout but easy terrain to Nike's anchor and continue past it to the Sundeck above (boulder grouping where it is safe to unrope). From here you can hike over the top and follow the trail down to the sunset parking lot or you can rap down The Tree Route to the start of Great Expectations. This route makes for a great first multipitch route that about anyone can get up. Have fun!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
