To all of you whom are guides and have families, spouses, and/or other people you're responsible for: how does it work with guiding and things like insurance? Does your company provide? If you're wife/partner doesn't have a job, how do you provide insurance for your children?

I don't have any kids but just got married. I provide my own health insurance. Can't afford a life insurance policy given the things I do. Her company provides insurance and when kids come we'll probably just all get covered under her plan. I am self employed now so at least the premiums are deductible...

I've never worked for a company (guiding or otherwise) that provided any real insurance coverage. I've also never really had that kind of 9-5 sort of job so it seems like most don't. I haven't really heard from any other guides who work for someone who does. I did work for a company that reimbursed me $100/month for my insurance premiums.

Glad my wife's company will provide insurance because it's already a PITA to pay for my own. Good thing social workers don't tend to have a lot of incidents of disability!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
